Animal Control
Animal Control is a division of The Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office. We encourage and support the community to spay/neuter, vaccinate, and microchip their pets.
Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control is responsible for the enforcement of state laws and county ordinances pertaining to the care, control, treatment, and licensing of domestic animals with a priority to protect public safety and animal welfare.
Dog Licenses and Vaccinations
Michigan Law requires that all dogs be licensed. In Ogemaw County, all dogs are required to be licensed and have a current rabies certificate. Therefore, as soon as a dog is vaccinated, a license has to be obtained for the dog. Dogs can be vaccinated as early as 4 months old, but usually not later than 6 months old (depending on breed). Your veterinarian’s office can inform you as to when you can vaccinate.
Licenses are issued yearly and must be obtained by February 28th each year or a penalty will be added to the license fee. Dog licenses are sold by the Ogemaw County Treasurer’s Office and Rea Family Animal Shelter all year round. Some townships sell dog licenses while collecting taxes. After March 1st, dog licenses are delinquent and subject to a delinquent fee except for puppies or newly acquired dogs and are available at the Ogemaw County Treasurer’s Office and Rea Family Animal Shelter.
Fees for dog licenses:
Dogs that are fixed: $10.00
Dogs that are not fixed: $15.00
Delinquent license after February 28th: $30.00
